The Correlation of English with Other Subjects
The correlation of English composition to other subjects is a vital point to the students. In high school composition isn’t taught as an art but merely a craft meaning that students learn about composing things that are usually beyond their comprehension.
Students are essentially not allowed to express their thoughts clearly instead they are forced to work using the old concepts which prepare students to create literature themselves in the future but that puts too big of burden on them and only brings disappointing results.
What should be done is allow students to express their thought-world which means to use the experiences they already had in other classes and their life in general instead of trying to expose them to literature that may not only be beyond their scope of understanding but also not interest them in any way therefore making it a dreadful craft rather than something that comes naturally and is to be excited about.
For example, when a student is interested in heating solutions in construction, he should be able to express that through his work. First, he should present his point of interest to the class orally and only then he should write his piece. That notion should allow students to write more freely and take out the burden of trying to meet certain expectations so in turn making it a creative process which would make it art instead of a dreadful artificial craft.
In conclusion English composition should correlate to not only other subjects but also students' personal experiences, interests, instead of making them write about topics beyond their comprehension.
