Solving the Problem of the Failure in English

Failure in  English  class is  much  higher than it should be as  English  as a subject is  not  necessarily hard compared to  mathematics, physics  etc.  This problem has been heavily researched by the author of the article that I have read.    The author  first  showcases the  magnitude of the problem with numbers  such as out of 187 students in a year 49 of them were in  English   where  it really should  not  be the case . He also presented us with three groups of these failing students, those who have the  ability to do well but simply do  not  have enough interest, those who do  not  know what their problem is and are stuck because of it and lastly those who can not  keep up w ith their class.    The author also  described some solutions to each group that he himself tested.  Firstly,  starting with the first group, th...

French phonetics in New York

The issue of teaching French phonetics has been a controversial to pic  in  New York , it has become like that because a certain body of new  Yorks  teachers  decided to vote for omission of phonetics que stion form the state exam inations.     Because such vote has transpired some may think that there’s a huge amount of these opposing bodies but  it couldn’t be further from the truth as it’s only a small number of p eople  violently  opposed to teaching phonetics.  The only thing this vote has actually shown is show what a determined minority can accomplish .  The same minority attempted to oppose phonetics again in 1918 but failed to “put it acr oss” because  Mr.   Whitley  chief of the state examinators sent a  questionnaire  to the teachers all across the state .    There were 75 replies from the city of  New York  itself and 160 replies from teachers form the entire ...

Reflections and future directions in publishing research in English as an Additional Language

As a  research writer it  can be very difficult to deal with the  pressure  of  releasing  your work in high -impact journals  considering that the increasingly prominent  evaluation and review systems.  In the UK these systems can affect an  individual's  promotion, departmental funding or the ranking of the university   in the country .  However,  as much  pressure  as  native  English  speakers are under  the   researchers that live in countries where  English  is an additional  language   are affected far more so. That is  because  not only do they have to put ou t articles with great content  that is relevant but they also have to meet language requirements that are not very clear  and the only way they can improve  is by reading sometimes cryptic and indirect comments left by revie w ers . Trying to battle this problem  P...

The Correlation of English with Other Subjects

The correlation of  English  composition  to other subjects is a vital poi nt to  the stude nts .  In high school composition isn’t taught as an art but merely a craft meaning that students  learn about composing things that are usually beyond their comprehension.      Students are essentially not allowed to express their thoughts  clearly  instead they are forced to  work using the old concepts which prepare students to create literature  themselves  in the future but that puts  too  big  of  burden on them  and only brings disappointing results.      What should be done is allow students to express their thought-world which means to use the experience s they already had in other classes and their life in general instead of trying to expose them to literature that may not only be beyond their scope of understanding but also not...
