Introduction to air pollution
Air pollution has been a problem for many years. Although many now of it not that many are aware of just how much it affects our environment. Air pollution can be divided into anthropogenic and non-anthropogenic origin. The non-anthropogenic one stems from thing like wildfires volcanic activity etc. This source of pollution however is unimportant as it cannot be compared to the anthropogenic one. While man made pollution can be traced back to when we discovered fire its effects weren’t as significant until humans started to burn fuels in big chunks, and because of that the bad effects on people’s health began to rise.
However, air pollution became a real problem during the industrial revolution which significantly increased the combustion of biomass and fossil fuels in urban centres. The impact that this pollution has can be split into direct and indirect. Direct impacts are associated with health damage of materials and ecosystems while the main indirect impact is definitely climate change which is caused by fuels and such burning resulting in warming of earth’s atmosphere which then releases greenhouse gases.
Nevertheless, air pollution is a difficult topic and has to be handled with care as it’s not only about the negative impact it has but also about why it’s necessary or us to live the way we do. Thanks to various technologies developed our life span has become longer but on the other hand because of the manufacturing processes etc we also feel the negative health impacts of it. It is said that if humanity took a slower route in development, we could have developed ‘cleaner’ Technlogies that would allow us to preserve the earth better however it would impact the economic development that took place.
In conclusion Man made pollution is extremally bad for our health but until we find new replacements for fuels and such not much can be done.
